Auckland Street art

Art is, in my opinon, the closest medium we can get to an true universal language. Most people can understand it, to some degree.

Having never been a huge fan of traditional museum, street art is something I prefer compared to walking the halls of some art museum. Now, don't get me wrong. If you visit the National Gallery in London, the Munch museum in Oslo or similar, they have GREAT pieces of art. But to me, that's more the art for the "elite". Art should be where the people are, not the other way around. True art is something we can experience every day, everywhere.

In Auckland street art is pretty visible. You can easily find pieces of art in the heart of the city centre. Made by people, for the people. Some of it is commissioned, but some is more, shall we say spontaneous. To me there's a huge difference between street art and vandalism. To me, vandalism are those "bubbly" letter that are hardly possible to read. That's not art to me. That's just a waste of spray paint. Street art to me is what you see below.

So next time you're in Auckland, or any major city, keep your eyes open for real art. Street art.
